Celebrating Bloomsday

Saba is delighted to celebrate Bloomsday in Rathgar Village, the birthplace of James Joyce, on Saturday 15th June between 1pm and 4pm. The village will be transformed into a scene from Ulysses as a street style party takes place in Christ Church Rathgar to celebrate the village’s rich history and heritage.

Rathgar holds significant importance for James Joyce. Joyce was born in 41 Brighton Square on 2nd February 1882. The celebrations will kick off at 1pm with readings from Joycean actors, local authors and historians who will give a history of Rathgar and Joyce’s connection to the area. Vintage costumes, live music, food and drinks under the trees in the beautiful setting of Christ Church will create a special atmosphere and ambience reflective of Ulysses.

Festival Highlights

Highlights during the afternoon will include interactive readings in The Vintry wine shop and Donovan’s Family Butchers, while musically there will be a jazz showcase with ‘Vintage French Swing with The Swing Bratz’. Face painters, fancy dress and art competitions will make this a really fun family event.
