For the second consecutive year the wine ENATE CHARDONNAY – 234 has been awarded the gold medal at the Chardonnay du Monde Competition. This 18th annual wine competition was held at the Château des Ravatys, the wine estate of the Pasteur Institute at Saint Lager in the Burgundy wine region of France. In this international competition, the wine ENATE CHARDONNAY 234 has been awarded the gold medal, a nice confirmation of the other gold medal obtained last year with vintage 2009.

The ENATE CHARDONNAY 234 was the only Spanish wine to obtain this award. In total eleven Spanish wines have been awarded. Eight were Silver Medals, 2 were Bronze and 1 was Gold (ENATE CHARDONNAY 234). It is also important to notice that two of our wines, ENATE CHARDONNAY BARREL 2008 and UNO’2006 ENATE CHARDONNAY have also obtained Silver Medals.

During this competition, 914 samples from 38 countries worldwide have been sampled by 300 international expert judges (50% of the judges were from outside France). After four days of judging, the distribution of medals is as follows: 53 Gold Medals, 187 Silver Medals and 65 Bronze Medals. This year, the 3 CHARDONNAY wines submitted by ENATE winery have been awarded in this world’s international competition.”

Enate Chardonnay 234 is priced at €28.00 for a bottle and €6.95 for a glass. Be sure to try this award winning wine the next time you are in SABA.

Somontano is a very new, up-and-coming area of Northern Spain. It is becoming known for the very high quality of wines made from both indigenous and international varieties of grapes.  Enate, whose company name is Vinedos y Crianzas del Alto Aragon, is a creation of the early ‘1990’s.  It benefited from being late into the arena in that it started up with very high-specification technology to vinify the excellent grapes grown at the higher altitudes in Alto Aragon.  The grapes benefit from the cooler nights of the mountain areas and this helps to preserve the best aromas and flavours of the fruit.

Enate is housed in a space-age, state-of-the-art winery in Salas Bajas, and the vineyards are in Enate.  Both winery and vineyards are in the province of Huesca.  Quality is their hallmark.

Characteristics: A lovely tawny yellow colour with a light green tint. A complex bouquet which combines varietal qualities (hazelnut, toasted bread) with tropical fruits (pineapple, grapefruit) and the smoky tones imparted by the oak casks. Full and creamy on the palate, well developed and with fresh acidity which leads to an extraordinary finish, long and balanced, accentuated by toasty notes

Cépage:            100 % Chardonnay

Alcohol:            13°

Vinification:            The grapes are hand harvested, de-stalked and have skin contact for 5 hours
