A Wine Match For The Europa Final

Posted on: May 18 2011

The summer is here and although it is still a bit chilly, we are getting in the mood. With nearly 50,000 Portuguese in Dublin to see Portuguese Liga rivals FC Porto and SC Braga contest the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League final in the Aviva tonight.

You probably had a few bottles of Vinho Verde when you were last on holidays in the Algarve, therefore we have a Vihno Verde special on for this week. An excellent bottle of Casa De Vila Verde for only €22.95, which has rich fruit and floral aromas on the nose followed by crisp citrus flavours on the palate. Delightful grapefruit and lemon notes lead to a satisfyingly crisp finish. This is a great warm-weather aperitif and can definitely stand up to Saba spice.

The Producer

Casa de Vila Verde is one of the oldest properties in the Vinho Verde region of Portugal, located along the country’s northernmost border near Spain.  With this rich history, the estate and winery is a protected agricultural zone as well as an officially registered historic building.  They remain relatively small (by regulation) in comparison to other Vinho Verde producers.  This has afforded them the opportunity to produce a more artisanal wine made from 100% estate grapes.
