Saba is a Thai and Vietnamese restaurant on Clarendon Street, in Dublin's city centre. Saba means “Happy meeting place” in Thai, and offers traditional Thai and Vietnamese dishes at great value with great service in a contemporary setting.
Taweesak Trakoolwattana, is our executive chef in Saba and he brings extensive culinary experience and a distinct passion for traditional Thai and Vietnamese dishes to the Dublin dining scene. Trakoolwattana or Tao as we call him has previously cooked for the King and Queen of Thailand.
From the outset, Tao wanted diners to immediately recognise something different in Saba. “Asian restaurants can sometimes compromise authenticity with fusion recipes, while Saba remains true to its Thai and Vietnamese heritage.” Taos focus is on fresh, healthy ingredients and rich authentic flavours, but that does not mean that there is an interesting twist here and there.
Since Saba opened in 2006 it has won many awards, including "Best Service" and "Best World Cuisine from The Food and Wine Magazine, Saba got commended for this award in 2010. We also won "Best Ethnic Restaurant" at The Gold Medal awards, "Best Asian Restaurant in Dublin" - InDublin Magazine and are included in "The Top 100 restaurants in 2011" - Bridgestone Guide.
Fresh Thai and Vietnamese herbs, vegetables and fruit arrive on a weekly basis from Bangkok to Saba - sourced from co-op farmers to ensure fair prices for farmers. All the beef, chicken and seafood is sourced locally in Ireland and the tea, coffee and sugar is organic and fair trade.
Saba also loves to push to test our diners palates with an array of unusual ingredients like the intense betal leaf herb, banana flower and nutritious red Thai rice.
From the start Saba has ensured that its cocktail list keeps pushing the limits with tastes and flavours which reflect and compliment the food. The team of mixologists are always ensuring that the favourites from around the world are promoted while also continuously seeking inspiration from the ingredients and creating their own wonderful cocktails. Saba has recently won the Cocktail Bar of the Year 2010 at the Santa Rita/Sunday Life Magazine Restaurant Awards and "Best Cocktail Bar" at the National Hospitality Awards.
Antique mirrors, polished concrete floors, dark wood and leather - contrasted with vibrant colours result in a style that has been described as "colonial meets contemporary". It has also won awards for its stylish design and has featured in many magazines.
Saba is open from 12pm till late, seven days a week and is located on 26-28 Clarendon Street, Dublin 2 parallel to Grafton Street in Dublin's city centre.
